Greetings!

We hope everyone is in good spirits at the beginning of another wonderful Holiday Season!  We have some great things happening this week!

Bayerischer Bahnhof Brettanomyces Lambicus "Rare Beer Tuesday" (12/19) Yes, that is a very long, strange name - we agree.  The cool part is that this beer is an absolute store favorite!  This is for all you sour beer fans out there!  Bayerischer Bahnhof Brettanomyces Lambicus is a 3% ABV Berliner Weisse that is very sour, deliciously complex and immensely refreshing.  If you're not familiar with Berliner Weisse, please click here for the fascinating history and explanation of the style.  We've had bottles on and off for the last year or so, but this is the first time we've been able to get a keg, so get on down here tomorrow at 5pm for a growler fill!

We'll also be tapping some rare and delicious holiday-oriented kegs for growler fills throughout the week that are sure to please, so keep an eye on facebook and Twitter for real time updates and remember you can always see what's live on our growler station by visiting our website and clicking the "News/Growlers" tab!

Thirsty Dog Bourbon Barrel-Aged Siberian Night for Rare Beer Tuesday (9/6)
For our first Rare Beer Tuesday event with our new growler filling options we're going with Bourbon Barrel-Aged Siberian Night Imperial Stout from Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. out of Akron, Ohio.  This is an extremely rare and sought-after, draft-only beer and this is one of the first tappings (if not the first) in SC!  To create this gem, Thirsty Dog took their 100 point rated, 9.7% ABV Siberian Night Imperial Stout and aged it fine Bourbon barrels to impart even more amazing flavor into this super-star beer!  Notes of vanilla, oak and Bourbon abound over a perfectly elegant and velvety smooth, roasty imperial stout. Ballast Point IPA is for hopheads. It's a malty brew too, with four malts to balance the high IBU (around 55).

Brewed by the Ballast Point Brewing Company in San Diego, California.

As a hophead myself, and comparing it to the likes of Stone IPA, or Dogfish Head 90 minute, I'd have to put it in third place, but that's only by a whisker. I really do enjoy this beer, but it doesn't have that 'something' that the others have.

Still on a scale of ten, I'd give it at least 7.5.

It's a higher gravity brew compared to a regular bitter, coming in at 5.7%. It is more highly hopped too. These are the characteristics of an India Pale Ale, which were originally formulated to survive the lengthy journey from England to India, back in colonial days, when it took weeks to make the journey by sea.

It's brewed using Optic Malt, which gives it a truly pale colour. Goldings and Fuggles hops are added to this beer, and there's a final hopping with American Cascade hops to give it an added bitterness.

All in all, I found this a pleasant brew, although I found it to be a little too highly carbonated for my own palate.

Ever since we ran Petrus Aged Pale draft for growler fills, people have been begging for us to put it on again.  The draft version of this beer was a one time, commemorative release and we wanted to save the last keg for a while.  With the Christmas season in full swing, we thought this was the right time to put a smile on all the sour-heads faces so at 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday) we'll be offering growlers of this most sour gem!  The draft of this is markedly more sour than its original, bottled counter-part so if you are a fan of barrel aged sour/wild ales you do not want to miss this one!  At 7.3% ABV and barrel aged for over 20 months, the flavor and aroma of this golden blonde ale are incomparable.

Please join us for our final beer dinner event of 2010.  We are wrapping the year up

Rare Beer Tuesday (11/9)
As we do every Tuesday at 5pm, we'll be tapping an even-more-extra-special-than-usual keg for growler fills!  This week we are very excited to offer a unique, very limited, draft-only selection from Bear Republic Brewing called Golden Grizzle.  This is Bear Republic's take on a Belgian-Style Tripel and boasts an ABV of 9.5%.  "Inspired by the Belgian tradition and brewed with Bear Republic style, this ale has a spicy and fruity yeast character and a malty, caramel finish."

Rare Bomber Thursday (11/11)
At 5pm Thursday we'll have the next release in our 22oz counter-pressure filled bomber-style growlers!  This time we'll have a real treat from Hopfenstark, our favorite little Quebecois brewery!  Ostalgia Rousse is a complex, German-inspired beer with Altbier style tendencies.  Hopfenstark releases are beyond limited and draft only in the U.S. so the opportunity to try their creations is always a rare treat!  Don't miss out!

Ted's Butcherblock "Bourbon Beer Dinner" (11/18)

You know how we do it every Tuesday at 5pm:  we tap an super-extra-special keg for growler fills!  This week we'll be unleashing vintage 2004 Smuttynose Barleywine!  You read that right, this vintage keg is almost 7 years old (kegged on 1/27/04), matured in perfect conditions for a truly unique experience!  At 10% ABV and boasting a huge malty profile, this beer was meant for aging.  The beer currently scores a nearly perfect 97 points on Ratebeer.com and we can only imagine the wonder some time has done for it!

Rare Bomber Thursday (10/7)
Our next leg of the Smuttynose insanity will kick off at 5pm Thursday when release 22oz counter-pressure filled bomber style "growlers" of Smuttynose Short Batch #10 Belgian Stout!  The Smuttynose Short Batch Series is a tiny production, draft only series of one-off experimental beers.  The brewery uses this series to try new things and have fun!  This one is an 8.3% ABV Belgian-style stout that is as impressively delicious as it is scarce.  Don't miss out!

Cask Ale Saturday (10/9)
To round out this Smutt-tacular week, we'll be gravity tapping a cask (firkin) of a special edition Smuttynose Big A IPA on Saturday at 2pm!  This real cask ale version of the always sublime Big A was specially dry-hopped with Simcoe, Santium,Centennial and Cascade hops along with a nice addition of French Oak!  This is the same dry-hopping blend that led this beer to take home the award for Best American Beer at the Great British Beer Festival!  Plan to be here promptly if you don't want to miss this!  

Remember, unlike our regular growler fills, real cask ale is highly perishable and must be consumed the same day so plan accordingly.  It is beer in its purest form, free of force carbonation and filtering allowing for a unique experience in texture, taste and aroma.

Glass Onion Sustainable Seafood Dinner with COAST Brewery (10/12)

Hello everyone!  Here's this week's lineup! 

Rare Beer Tuesday with Stone/Ballast Point Collaboration! (9/28)
As you probably know, Tuesday at 5pm is our weekly time slot for some of our most special growler offerings and this Tuesday is no different as we proudly tap "San Diego County Session Ale", a unique collaboration between Stone, Ballast Point and Kelsey McNair.  This beer is big in hoppy aroma and flavor but at 4.2% ABV you can drink it comfortably.  An "all-day-IPA" of sorts, this is true session beer for hop heads!  This beer was extremely limited in South Carolina so don't miss one of your only chances to pick some up!

Rare Bomber Thursday with Oskar Blues - Part 2 (9/30)
Following last week's Rare Bomber Thursday release of the elusive Whiskey Barrel Aged Ten Fidy, we are thrilled to follow up this week with Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey Barrel Aged Old Chub Scotch Ale from Oskar Blues!  This wondrous elixir, often referred to as "Chubourbon", shows amazing notes of vanilla, caramel, oak and butterscotch.  Stunningly rich and complex.  One to save and savor.  This will be available in 22oz counter-pressure filled "growlers" starting at 5pm on Thursday.

Saturday Cask Event with Terrapin Beer Co. (10/2)
This Saturday at 2pm we'll be tapping our next cask (firkin) of real ale for growler fills!  This time we have a unique specialty from Terrapin: Cherry Oak Big Hoppy Monster!  These one off casks are always a blast and a tricked out version of one our all time favorites is sure to be a hit!   

If you have never been to one of our special cask ale releases before, it is beer in it's purest form: conditioned in the cask and free of force carbonation, filtration or other processing.  Real cask ales allow the beer to showcase different nuances of texture, flavor and aroma than their normally kegged counterparts.  Unlike our regular growler fills, cask ale is highly perishable and must be consumed the same day so plan accordingly!  We will gravity tap this cask on the counter at 2pm and growler fills of this beauty will be limited so don't wait. 

Carolina's Beer Dinner with Breckenridge Brewmaster Todd Usry (9/28)
This Tuesday, September 28th at 7pm, Carolina's will be hosting Todd Usry, President & Brewmaster of Breckenridge Brewery for a beer dinner featuring five of his wonderful beers each expertly paired with Chef Jeremiah Bacon's exquisite food for a night to remember!  Call Carolina's at (843) 724-3800 for reservations and additional information.

Rare Beer Tuesday (9/7)

We are using this week's "Rare Beer Tuesday" time-slot to give everyone advanced notice of our tapping of Ballast Point Sculpin IPA for growler fills starting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 5pm!  In the opinions of some, this is the greatest and most highly sought-after IPA that we get, and we rarely get enough of it to be able to announce its arrival, so here it is!  Don't miss out this time!

Rare Bomber Thursday (9/9)
For "Rare Bomber Thursday" this week, we are very proud to announce the South Carolina debut of Hopfenstark Brewery, brought to you exclusively by The Charleston Beer Exchange!  Hopfenstark hails from Quebec, Canada.  All Hopfenstark beers brought into the USA are draft-only, and are unbelievably uncommon to find on-tap anywhere!  This week's beer will be their amazingly rare "PostColonial IPA", which is a recreation of/homage to the beer that spawned the style "India Pale Ale"!  It comes in at 6.5% ABV and is reddish/orange in color with a subtle, floral hop aroma and well-balanced hop/malt flavor profile.  This will be available for sale in pre-filled 22oz bomber-style "growlers"starting Thursday, 9/9 at 5pm.  Click HERE for a reminder of how Rare Bomber Thursday works.

Rare Beer Tuesday (8/31)
We are thrilled to announce that tomorrow for "Rare Beer Tuesday" we will be filling growlers of the Stone / 21st Amendment / Firestone Walker collaboration beer called "El Camino (Un)Real Black Ale" starting at 5pm!  This is the one and only keg of this beer in the entire Southeast!  Check out the reviews for it on BeerAdvocate and RateBeer!  Scott Sheridan from Stone Brewing will be on hand to answer questions about this beer and all things Stone!  We don't know how long this will last, so please get here at 5pm so you don't miss out! It's almost Tuesday, and you probably already know what that means: Something super rare and extraordinary goes on the growler station at 5pm!  This week, we take special delight in bringing you the area debut of Stillwater Artisinal Ales based out of Baltimore, Maryland.  But take the term "based" loosely as Brian Strumke, owner/brewer of Stillwater, is what some call a "Gypsy Brewer".  Much like another CBX favorite, Mikkeller, Brian travels the world expertly brewing unique, very small batch beers at the facilities of other breweries where he has established relationships.  Our featured Stillwater beer this week will be Brian's "Cellar Door", a wonderful take on the Farmhouse/Saison style.  We only have a small amount of Cellar Door so it won't last long.  If you would like to read Brian's description of his beer, click HERE

Rare Bomber Thursday with Oskar Blues! (6/19)
